Republicans quietly subpoena Bank of America for Hunter Biden’s business associates’ finance records

GOP ramps up investigation into President’s family – while Democrats claim they are trying to bury probe into Trump

  • Rep. Jamie Raskin wrote Rep. James Comer to share ‘deep concern’ over probes
  • He blasted ‘overbroad’ subpoena of Hunter associate’s checking account
  • He accused Oversight panel of trying to ‘bury’ Trump tax information

Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin revealed in a blistering letter that House Oversight Committee Republicans have subpoenaed a Hunter Biden associate seeking years’ worth of financial information.

Raskin (D-Md.) accused Republican panel chair Rep. James Comer of Kentucky of conducting a ‘political dragnet’ seeking to ‘intrude’ on private details of John R. Walker through the sweeping subpoena. He says a trio of subpoenas seek ‘all financial records’ of three individuals over a ‘staggering 14-year period.’

Raskin appears to have learned about the subpoena from the majority, but he chastised Comer in his letter, dated Sunday, for brushing past a customary 48-hour notice period.

And he accuses Comer of intruding into private details of Walker, who was involved in a joint venture with Chinese firm CEFC energy, part of what Comer casts as a web of entanglements benefitting Biden family members.

Comer’s Oversight Committee confirmed the subpoena in a statement, and blasted Raskin’s claims as ‘completely unfounded.’

‘The Oversight Committee has subpoenaed and obtained financial records related to the Biden family’s influence peddling,’ a panel spokesperson told DailyMail.com.

‘These documents solidify our understanding of several areas of concern and have opened new avenues of investigation about the Biden family’s business schemes,’ the spokesperson added.

Raskin said the letter compelled a document production of thousands of pages of private financial information, including a decade worth of bank statements for the checking account.

Raskin called the subpoena ‘wildly overbroad.’ He also noted that Comer had sought documents from the ‘estranged mother of Hunter Biden’s child’ who sued him for paternity and child support, a reference to Lunden Alexis Roberts.

Bank of America had turned over a ‘considerable amount of material,’ a source told CNN

Walker held positions in the administrations of Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, and has previously been identified in a Senate Republican report on Hunter Biden.

Tony Bobulinski, who accused Biden family members of corruption and appeared at a presidential debate in the fall of 2020, identified Walker as being ‘very very close’ to the Biden family. He said he helped develop a deal with CEFC China energy.

Raskin then accused Oversight Republicans of trying to ‘bury’ Trump tax information – after Democrats prevailed at the Supreme Court following a multi-year saga to obtain years of tax information about former President Donald Trump.

The panel finally received and put out six years of Trump’s tax information in December 2022, weeks before they handed over the committee gavel. The documents showed that Trump paid no tax in 2020 as his income dropped.

He referenced information that foreign governments in including Saudi Arabia, China, and China ‘spent hundreds of thousands of dollars at Trump-owned properties’ while Trump was in office.

Then he accused Republicans of acting ‘in coordination’ with Trump’s lawyers ‘to bury evidence of such misconduct.’

Raskin referenced an email from Trump lawyer Patrick Strawbridge on January 19, 2023, after the GOP took over, to the Mazars accounting firm, which had produced documents to Congress under a court agreement.

‘I do not know the status of Mazars [sic] production, but my understanding is that the Committee has no interest in forcing Mazars to complete it and is willing to release it from further obligations under the settlement agreement,’ Strawbridge wrote, according to an email cited by Raskin.

Comer’s office explicitly denied that allegation.

‘The accusation by Ranking Member Raskin is completely unfounded and untrue. There has been no coordination or discussion with anyone from the Committee’s majority with anyone about the Mazars documents,’ said the spokesperson.

‘So what is the point of the letter? To try to get ahead of the information the Oversight Committee is receiving in its investigation of the Biden family’s influence peddling. Ranking Member Raskin may want to have his staff conduct another review of the records obtained by the committee, as there are several quite notable developments that have both solidified the committee’s understanding of several areas of concern and opened new avenues of investigation about the Biden family’s business schemes.’

Comer has previously announced a widespread probe into Biden family members’ business dealings, and wrote in a release last month: ‘If President Biden is compromised by deals with foreign adversaries and they are impacting his decision making, this is a threat to national security.’

The White House has said repeatedly Biden had no knowledge of business deals by his family members.
